We know about PVC at Strip Curtains Direct, it's what we do. But did you know that PVC roll is an ideal material for compliance with most Health & Safety measures?
If you take a look at the Health and Safety Executives’ guidelines for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for example, you can see that it covers equipment that will protect the user against health or safety risks at work. It includes items such as safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses. However, it is also up to employers to provide barriers and shields to help protect against hazards, especially when it comes to welding and cutting.
Obviously, it is important to not only protect people who are engaged in activities that are potentially hazardous but also the people and equipment that are in the same general vicinity. Shields, guards and barriers are therefore an important part of any health and safety regulations and can be used in a variety of circumstances. Let's take a quick look at the ways that PVC roll can be used in hazard prevention:
Welding
During the welding process, a lot of high-intensity light is created and the ultraviolet light emitted during this process is equivalent to a few hours of direct sunlight. The UV rays that this light contains are as harmful to the skin and the eyes in the same way that prolonged exposure to the sun is.
Welding can also create a shower of molten metal (which is also known as splatter), as well as small chips of metal which can occur during the cleaning process. These shards create a potential hazard to the eye, as well as being a serious fire hazard.
Cutting and Grinding
During the welding process, there may also be some cutting and grinding of metals which can cause debris to be cast off. Not only is this debris a source of ignition for fires, but it can also land in eyes and on the skin. Shields are also essential for any tasks that involve fibreglass, as this can cause irritation to the skin very easily.
Chemicals
If you are working with any chemical products, such as pharmaceutical products, paints or lacquers, then screens are an essential item to contain spills and splashes, and also isolate vapours.
PVC is an ideal choice for screens and barriers, as not only is it chemical and fire resistant, but it is also translucent and flexible meaning that it can be used to contain tasks safely. Our latest product, welding screens, for example, can protect against the damaging effects of UV light and also provide a barrier against sparks and flying debris. The fact that the PVC is translucent also means that foremen and supervisors can keep a close eye on what is going on while keeping a safe distance.
PVC Weld Screens, such as the options that we provide, are usually used to create portable shields that can be placed wherever the welding is taking place. They can be moved around easily as well, and so are popular in places such as shipyards, and laboratories.
