Any door that stays open — for ventilation, forklift access, or staff flow — is an open invitation for flying insects. The question isn't whether to protect it. It's the solution that actually fits your operation.
Two options dominate commercial and industrial sites in the UK: fly screen doors and anti-insect PVC strip curtains. Both work. But they suit different environments, different traffic levels, and different door types. Here's how to choose.
What's the Difference?
A commercial fly screen door is a framed mesh barrier fitted over your existing door opening. It opens and closes like a door, creates a solid seal when shut, and is available in standard, heavy duty, two-way, and security configurations.
An anti-insect strip curtain is a set of overlapping PVC strips hung from a rail. The PVC contains an insect-deterrent additive throughout the material — not a surface coating. Strips part on contact, allowing hands-free, continuous access without breaking the pest barrier.
Which One Do You Need?

When to Choose a Fly Screen Door
A fly screen door suits sites where you need a defined open/close barrier — a commercial kitchen back door open during service, a staff-only entrance, or a fire escape that must remain openable yet protected. Our heavy-duty and security models are built for daily commercial use, not for domestic applications.
When to Choose an Anti-Insect Strip Curtain
Strip curtains suit high-traffic openings where a rigid door isn't practical. Loading docks, food production doorways, wide warehouse bays — anywhere staff or forklifts are moving through constantly. Our anti-insect PVC strip curtains are available in 200mm and 300mm widths. For cold store access, our insulated strip curtains combine temperature separation with pest control.
What About Compliance?
Both solutions serve as documented physical exclusion measures — which is what environmental health officers and food safety auditors look for at door openings. Neither replaces a full pest management programme, but both demonstrate that reasonable precautions are in place. Fit to cover the full opening with no gaps. That's where most off-the-shelf products fail.

Can I use both on the same site?
Yes. Many operations fit a fly screen door on a personnel entrance and strip curtains on the adjacent loading bay. It's a per-opening decision, not a site-wide one.
Are strip curtains forklift-safe?
Yes. Strips part on impact and return to position. For heavy forklift traffic, specify the 300mm x 3mm gauge.
