Main challenge: Creating a reliable fixing setup for an existing PVC curtain
Solution: Steelwork installation using the customer’s existing curtain
Result: A stronger, more practical doorway setup to support separation, access and temperature-managed working zones
The challenge
A shared-use commercial kitchen hub in London needed a more reliable way to fit and support an existing PVC strip curtain across a busy doorway.
In commercial kitchen environments, access points have to work hard. Staff, suppliers, and equipment may need to move through the space regularly, while the kitchen still requires practical separation between internal and external areas, food preparation zones, storage areas, and service spaces.
The customer already had a PVC curtain, but needed the correct steelwork and fixing setup to make it suitable for day-to-day use. Without a strong hanging system, even a good curtain can become awkward, unreliable or difficult to maintain.
Why the hanging system mattered
For this project, the key requirement was not to replace the curtain itself — it was to ensure the curtain had the right structure behind it.
A robust hanging system helps keep PVC strips securely positioned across the opening. It also makes it easier to remove, adjust, or replace strips as needed, which is useful in commercial kitchens where cleanliness, maintenance, and practical access all matter.
The stainless steel hanging plate linked to this type of setup is designed for durability and regular use. Our experience shows that the 400mm hanging plate is rust-resistant, moisture-proof, and suitable for wet areas such as food processing plants and loading bays, making it a sensible choice for demanding food and beverage environments.
The solution installed
Strip Curtains Direct installed the required steelwork and hanging system while reusing the customer’s existing PVC curtain.
This gave the kitchen hub a more practical and reliable doorway setup without needing to replace the entire curtain system. The installation allowed the existing PVC strips to hang correctly across the opening, creating a flexible barrier that could continue to support separation and access throughout the site.
The curtain was fitted across a large access point leading between an indoor working area and an external or semi-external service space. This makes durability, secure fixation, and ease of movement especially important.
The result
The finished installation gave the commercial kitchen hub a stronger and more usable PVC curtain setup.
